Robotics is an extracurricular activity that has rapidly grown in popularity over the past few years both in schools throughout Minnesota, and across the country. Its blend of technology and innovation, mixed with the challenge of building a robot to compete at a local, state, and national level, has a broad appeal to students interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Teams everywhere receive a competition manual, then must work together quickly over a six-week timeline to build a robot that meets the criteria used to score points during competition.
BusinessWare Solutions is proud to have sponsored robotics teams in Hutchinson, Litchfield, and New Ulm, Minnesota this year. The BusinessWare Solutions team has been excited to follow each of the teams, their progress, and journey through their progressively tough competition this past year. Although Robotics utilizes engineering and mechanical aspects heavily, there is also a significant portion that is based in technology and computer software.
“Robotics teams didn’t exist when I was a child, and I wish they had,” said BusinessWare Solutions President, Don Hoversten. “I think it’s just awesome that these programs exist. They teach kids technology and how to work together as a team.”
After winning various regional competitions, the Hutchinson and Litchfield teams even went on to compete in the FIRST (For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology) World Championship in St. Louis, Missouri where they faced over 400 of the top robotics teams in the world.
Congratulations to the Hutchinson Tigerbots, Litchfield Dragon Robotics, and New Ulm Robotics teams on their hard work and innovation for the 2017 season!
